Clandestine triton - Cymatium succinctum

Cymatium succinctum or "clandestine triton" is a beautiful shell, brown with black ribs that reaches 60mm in length. The shell can just be seen through its distinctive "periostracum" of thin petal-like tissue which completely covers the shell and is great camouflage. This photo was taken of the shell as it was found. They are often overlooked by divers as well as hungry shell-eating fish.
