Snail egg cases

A clutch of eggs from an unknown mollusk seemed ready to hatch and indeed the close up of the capsules show tiny larval shells in their veliger stage, each with four wing-like ciliated lobes that will propel them through the water until they find the right spot to "settle out." They are a great food source for many animals and with luck perhaps one or two of these will eventually grow into adult shells. The individual veligers (right) are probably about a millimeter wide.
