Terebellid worm

My fascination and curiosity with marine worms was somewhat satiated on Monday with the accidental emergence of a "spaghetti worm". Terebellid worms extend long tentacles (which look like spaghetti) for feeding while their body stays hidden in sand or under rocks. To our surprise, this worm came shooting out of its pebble covered tube and swam in a manner similar to eels before coiling up for protection! Branched gills are visible as well as long spines which it may use to hold itself in its tube. 80mm
