Miter shell - Vexillum exasperatum

The miter shell Vexillum exasperatum is common in sandy areas everywhere. This one was out hunting for food in the late afternoon, exposing its beautiful animal. Although not too clear on the web photo, this species is often covered with a species of hydroid which gives it a fuzzy appearance and may provide a measure of protection. 12mm
