There are at least two species of bat fish at Kwajalein and more often than not they are seen in schools that roam the lagoon reefs, so it was unusual to find a single individual of Platax orbicularis on a coral outcrop. At 30cm, it had yet to lose the tall dorsal and pectoral fins these fish develop as juveniles.
