Mantis shrimp - Lysiosquilla sp.

Algae patches are home to this large stomatopod species, Lysiosquilla sp, who was more curious than most and allowed many photos to be taken from above before sinking to the safety of his deep tunnel in the sand. They possesses wickedly sharp spines on their folded appendages and similar to the praying mantis insect, is able to grab unsuspecting prey with them at lightning speed.
