Striated cone shell - Conus striatus

An adult Conus striatus, 10cm. As a fish-eating cone shell, it possesses a potent venom to subdue sleeping fish which it stings with a modified radular tooth and then engulfs by extending and expanding the proboscis (round pink object visible between the eyes) over the paralyzed fish to digest it. This is one of the most dangerous cones in our area.
