A new find from this past weekend represents not only a new species for Kwajalein but the Marshall Islands as well. About 50mm in length (maybe a bit more with the tail uncurled), it is tentatively identified as Hippocampus histrix.
Although we found a tiny pygmy seahorse several years ago, this is our first "full size" seahorse sighting. Found in a habitat we have spent many hundreds of hours closely inspecting, we are reasonably confident we could not have overlooked others.
