Mimic octopus - Thaumoctopus mimicus

This was our first sighting of the mimic octopus, Thaumoctopus mimicus. It was probably around 25cm and often takes on this black and white pattern. It is able to slide itself down a sandy hole for protection and is often seen with only its head sticking up from the sand.
