We were hoping to see this species of batfish, Platax batavanus, and this one exhibited an intermediate pattern. Already over 20cm, it was staying close to the black feather crinoid but was getting too big to realistically hide behind it. Later in the trip we were lucky to see several of the spectacular juveniles.
