Sponge - Ianthella basta

A recent arrival to the southern portion of the lagoon is the sponge Ianthella basta, which can form large bowl shapes easily reaching 1.5 meters in width. It has become especially common in deeper, protected lagoon areas. It is variable in color from yellow-green to blue-purple, and this was a very small and attractive blue colony. 60mm
