Octopus

Probing the sand with its long tentacles often costs an octopus part of an arm should it happen to choose a hole with an eel or large crab at the bottom. Fortunately, they evolved the ability to regenerate the lost portion and continue to function quite well until the missing portion is regrown. We see many octopus with multiple tentacles in various stages of regrowth.
