A number of these large sponges attached to the top deck greeted us as we decended to the shipwreck. Ianthella basta is now a common sponge seen nearly everywhere in the deeper lagoon areas but began appearing only over the past 25 years or so. We remember none of this sponge prior to that time. This is a small one maybe 3 feet across.
