Halimeda ghost pipefish - Solenostomus halimeda

The much larger female matches the typical algae often speckled with sand. She was twice as large as the male and much wider as a result of the large egg pouch we watched her extend a number of times. We speculate she was preparing to spawn by taking advantage of the new moon that was set to occur that very night.
