Basket stars (Astroboa nuda) emerge at night with numerous curly, branched arms that can extend 18 to 24 inches (70cm) as they face into the current to feed on plankton. The branches are in a constant curling motion and offer protection for several species of commensal shrimp and crabs. One species was this Lipkemenes lanipes with a very unusual head structure that extends over and past its eyes. 10mm
