Horned helmet shell - Cassis cornuta

Often seen in sandy areas with patches of Halimeda algae along the Bigej Meck reef are large helmet shells, Cassis cornuta, who feed on burrowing urchins. The large shell is usually partially buried but now and then we find one out crawling with its smooth orange animal visible. This shell was easily 9 inches (23cm).
