Among the more challenging nudibranch species to photograph are Melibes, an unique group that move along the bottom to catch small crustaceans by expanding their large oral hoods to trap them. They are challenging because of their transparency and ability to blend in with the substrate. Having given some thought to the problem, I devised a portable black substrate they don’t mind crawling over and thus give a more detailed view of the animal’s shape and pattern.
