Gymnothorax favagineus Bloch & Schneider, 1801
Laced moray eel, 300cm

We saw these large morays at a number of sites, mostly in the Tulamben area.

With cleaner shrimp in mouth.

We saw this one at Seraya occuping the same hole under a large rock over several years until that rock was buried by rubble and sand sometime between 2020 and 2022. One year the eel had some torn skin just behind the head, possibly indicating it had been in some sort of fight.

The smaller one below might be Gymnothorax isingteena.
