Neochirus brachypterus (Cuvier, 1829)
Dwarf lionfish, 17.0cm

Neochirus brachypterus is a somewhat variable lionfish common at numerous sites in Gilimanuk, Pemuteran, Puri Jati, Tulamben, Amed and Padangbai, and probably other areas around Bali. They are often nestled up against rocks and can be difficult to see. I can confirm that the venomous dorsal spines pack a pretty good sting!
