Peristernia chlorostoma (Sowerby, 1825)
17mm
Peristernia
chlorostoma is abundant under rocks on shallow reefs. Although Peristernia
chlorostoma has been reported widespread in the Indo-Pacific, it appears
to me that the Hawaiian representative might be different. The specimen in the
photo below from the reef at Kewalo Basin has black tentacles, a gray siphon,
and what appears to be black on the sides of its foot. One from the Marshall
Islands has mottled red tentacles, a red siphon with white spots and a red
foot speckled with white.
