Aquilonastra anomala is a small variably-colored species common under rocks on very shallow reefs such as those at Kewalo (which has greatly changed since these photographs were taken) and Hauula. Hawaii is not listed as part of the distribution of this species in O'Loughlin & Rowe (2006); our ID comes from Hoover (1999) and from similarity to specimens we've identified as Aquilonastra anomala from the Marshall Islands.
