Puffinus pacificus (Gmelin, 1789)
Wedge-tailed Shearwater

The Wedge-tailed Shearwater is considered to be an uncommon offshore visitor. Clapp (1990) summarizes several sightings, but the only one we are personally aware of is the individual photographed below by David Greene on Kwajalein. The bird appeared to be taking a rest on land but later was gone, probably heading back out to sea to continue feeding. Some sites call this the Christmas Shearwater.
