Amed

Amed is about a half hour van ride east of Tulamben. We have been there on several of our trips, usually diving day and night from the calm sandy beach, although we did do one boat dive on a reef just east of the beach. The beach has a wide shallow sandy flat leading to a sand slope. Lots of small octopus, sand dwelling nudibranchs, scorpionfish and much more. The remains of a sunken liveaboard dive boat just a ways off the beach is always loaded with fish, including several large stonefish (Synanceia).

The large active volcano Mt Agung.

Salt collecting troughs. Fill the trough with sea water and let it evaporate, then scrap off the salt into baskets.

Baskets of fresh sea salt.
