Numerous specimens in pairs or single individuals were found on blades of Avrainvillea s algae on black sandy slope in various sites around Tulamben. There is some disagreement among sources about the identity of these animals. Gosliner et al (2018) show identically colored specimens as Stiliger ornatus. However, our specimens have the close set eyes characteristic of Costasiella and are always found on Avrainvillea, the sole diet of several related species. Stiliger ornatus is supposed to eat Codium. S. ornatus is similar to the Costasiella on this page in color, as can be seen in specimens from the Marshall Islands and from Anilao, Philippines.
