On the eastern side of Bali is the Padangbai area, the location of a popular site called the Blue Lagoon. Diving is by boat from a small harbor. Many dive boats go offshore to some islands such as Mimpang and Gili Tepekong, but those tend to be more strenuous dives, often in currents, to see large creatures such as sharks and mola mola. We prefer the small stuff in quiet waters, so spend our time along the shore.

A long wharf makes for an interesting dive. The pilings and bottom are covered with marine growth and interesting creatures. But you need to watch out for lines and hooks from the many fishermen on the pier above.
Idling along the shoreline between dives, we spotted this pair of blue Sacred Kingfishers in the tree branches. The jukung driver obligingly brought us in right to the edge of the rocky shore so I could snap a couple of photos.
