Sagaminopteron sp. e852
~10mm

A single specimen of this Sagaminopteron species was found on a large patch of light gray sponge at a depth of about 20m at night on 8 October 2016 on a Kwajalein Atoll lagoon pinnacle. It looks somewhat like what has been called a form of Sagaminopteron nigropunctatum, but it seems so different from our specimen of that species that we have to maintain it separately.

This is the colony of sponge where the specimen was found. It was encrusting dead coral on the pinnacle slope, the patch measuring at least 3m on a side.
