Samla rubropurpurata is known from the Marshalls mostly from Enewetak Atoll, where 24 specimens were found over a two-year period. Of those 24, ten were found on one night dive on 15 August 1981 and another seven on a single night dive on 19 May 1983. The rest were found singly and scattered throughout the period. Most were found at night, and all were on lagoon pinnacles at depths of 5 to 10 meters. Specimens ranged from about 7 to 15mm in length.
The small specimen below is the first found at Kwajalein Atoll, found in a lagoon Halimeda patch on 2 October 2011.
The small individual below was found on 13 August 2012.
Another small one from Kwajalein on 31 May 2015 seems to have oversized rhinophores for its size.
