Angaria
exasperata (Dillwyn, 1817)
40.65mm
Angaria
exasperata is
the only species in the family Angariidae found in the Marshall Islands. They
are found exposed on hard reef, usually on the seaward reef but sometimes on
lagoon pinnacles. Their irregular shape and generally heavy encrustations make
the shells difficult to see. They are most often seen if they have fallen over
and are resting on the bottom aperture up. Angaria nodosa is a synonym.
Some have much wider nodules, almost
fingers, around the periphery of the last whorl.
