Coralliophila amirantium Smith, 1884

Coralliophila amirantium is found on Seriatopora corals in Halimeda algae patches on sandy lagoon slopes. The shells are usually covered with a red "skin" that by its structure appears to be a kind of sponge.

The photo below shows the thin outer layers of the red covering that appears to be a kind of sponge.

The red shell covering can wear off in older specimens.
