Heliacus trochoides is a small species that has been found on the intertidal reef associated with a zoanthid species of Palythoa common near the outer edge of the seaward intertidal reef flat. Specimens were also found in Kwajalein reef quarries on chunks of Palythoa that had been torn off the reef and washed into the quarries.
