Common giant clam - Tridacna maxima

Previous

This is the bored hole that used to house a Tridacna maxima. It was recently ripped from its hole, probably by an octopus or nurse shark. Broken tufts of the whitish byssus the clam uses to anchor to the rock are still visible in the lower part of the hole.
