Fluted clam - Tridacna squamosa

When any of the Tridacnidae are deprived of light, they lose the symbiotic zooxanthellae that give them their color. Here the right side of the clam had been covered by a broken table coral. When the coral was removed, the portion of the clam that had been shaded was pure white. Presumably, now that light can once again reach the clam tissue, the algae will gradually return.
