Clavus
cf protentus Hervier, 1896
16.6mm
This
empty shell was under a rock at about 16m on the seaward reef.
While it resembles a faded Clavus
rugizonatus, the markings on the upper whorls appear different and
the shell is similar to what gastropods.com
calls Clavus protentus. However, it does not exactly match a syntype
figured by the National
D'Histoire Naturelle. Our identification remains questionable.
