Conus bullatus Linnaeus, 1758
Bubble cone, ~50mm
We
saw several empty shells off Guadalcanal, but only this one living subadult
specimen out crawling about at night.
We had always thought this a rather rare cone shell, but were surprised to see
one shop in Honaira that had a box of keychains made from them. The shells appeared
to have been collected freshly emptied, probably washed in on beaches after
a storm.

One of the empty shells from Tanaghai,
Guadalcanal, at 48.0mm

Keychain from Honaira store made
from Conus bullatus.
