Dofleinia armata Wassilieff, 1908
25-100mm

Several of these small anemones were protruding from small crevices on the undersurface of a large rock on a Kwajalein lagoon reef. They measured about 25mm in width, including tentacles. These would seem to be juvenile Dofleinia armata, although our use of the name used here is somewhat tentative. We have photographed larger specimens in the Philippines that match web and book photos of the species. The adult specimens in the Philippines livc in sand, while ours were all in rock crevices, although it is possible they will move as they age.

This one may be the same but was a bit larger, more than 100mm in diameter (tentacles included), and was exposed at night on a rocky wall in a seaward reef channel.
