Heteractis doreensis lives in patches of Halimeda algae on lagoon slopes at depths ranging from about 7 to 30m. Usually they are occupied by one or just a few small Amphiprion tricinctus and perhaps a few Dascyllus trimaculatus. Often there are also one or two species of commensal shrimp.
The next shot shows one that really displays its characteristic corkscrew tentacles.
