Telmatactis decora (Hemprich & Ehrenberg in Ehrenberg, 1834)
100mm

Telmatactis decora is usually seen with its oral disk peeking out from under rocks or from rocky crevices. It has a long stretchy column and its base attaches to the undersurface of the rock or deep within the crevice. Like many other anemones, it has considerable color variation.

The little furry crab Polydectus cupulifer carries juveniles of this anemone around in its claws, possibly using the anemones' stinging cells for protection or to help the crab gather food. We have not personally seen this crab in the Marshalls; the photo below was taken in Hawaii.
