Triactis producta Klunzinger, 1877
30mm

Triactis producta is uncommonly seen under rocks or in reef crevices on lagoon, pinnacle or seaward reefs at Kwajalein, where it is a small anemone rarely exceeding about 30mm in diameter.

The one immediately below was taken in Hawaii.

We saw them more commonly clustered in the Philippines and Indonesia. Those below were photographed near Anilao, Philippines.

Juvenile anemones are carried by the small pompom crab, Lybia tessellata. It has been suggested that the crab uses the anemones for feeding, or their stinging cells may also be used for protection. That they wave the anemones above their bodies as they run away if exposed lends credence to the latter function.
