Abantennarius coccineus (Lesson, 1831)?
Scarlet frogfish, 13cm

This one appears to be another Antennatus coccineus, although it is possible the dorsal and anal fins do not reach the tail, which would make it Antennatus nummifer instead. It also resembles one of the color forms of Nudiantennarius subteres. The small individual was found hidden in a lagoon patch of Halimeda algae. Other animals we think are color variants of A. coccineus are shown on separate pages.
