Epinephelus macrospilos (Bleeker, 1855)
Snubnose grouper, 51cm

This seems closest to Epinephelus macrospilos although other published figures do not show the large dark spot on the caudal peduncle or the dark spots along the base of the dorsal spines. We have seen these on seaward and lagoon reefs. The first shot below is from Stan Jazwinski.
