Epinephelus tauvina (Forsskål, 1775)
Greasy grouper, 100cm

Epinephelus tauvina is moderately common at Kwajalein. We have mostly seen them on the seaward reef, but they do occur in the lagoon as well. They are reported to reach about 100cm, although we have seen none nearly that large. This is another species that can be difficult to distinguish from similar Epinephelus species.

We are not sure about the individual below. It seems closest to a pale Epinephelus tauvina.
