Variola albimarginata Baissac, 1953
Lyretail grouper, 65cm

Variola albimarginata appears to be not common, but that may be due to confusion with the similar species Variola louti. Variola albimarginata is characterized by a thin bright white edge to the trailing portion of the tail fin; in V. louti, that border is a much wider yellow band. Colors on the rest of both species seem to vary. We have seen them on seaward, pinnacle and lagoon reefs. It is reported to reach about 65cm.
