Marshall Islands Batfish (Ephippidae)

Two species of batfish are known from Kwajalein. Adults tend to form schools around lagoon pinnacles or shipwrecks, but may also be seen in pairs or small groups around lagoon and seaward reefs. Juveniles are most often seen inshore, under piers or around mooring buoy lines. Some people refer to these as "spadefish" since there is another very different kind of fish also commonly called batfish. Unless otherwise noted, sizes given are maximum sizes for the species listed in Fishbase, not necessarily the size of the figured specimen.
