Ennubuj (Carlson) Island erosion

Ennubuj, often known on Kwajalein by its old military code name of Carlson, in September 2001, with little sign of serious erosion.

Approximately the same area 12 years later, in October 2013. The shoreline has been eaten back and several palm trees lie dead on the beach.

A closer view.

A poor quality photo of the south end of Ennubuj from 1973. The island vegetation is closer to the old rusty landing craft wreckage, which is on a sandy beach that extends farther south.

South end of Ennubuj in May 2014. The vegetation has receded and the long sandy spit is nearly gone. The remnants of the rusted away landing craft barely poke above the water's surface.

July 2011. The palms around the south end of the island are in distress.

June 2012. Further erosion with some palms dead or dying on the beach.

May 2014 from a slightly more southerly angle. More dead palms on the beach
