Kwajalein Island, lagoonside erosion

Much of the lagoon shoreline of Kwajalein has been beefed up with large boulders and riprap. At the few unprotected sites, erosion is taking its toll. Casuarina equisetifolia trees near Coral Sands beach are being undercut and have their roots exposed.

Along another beach east of Coral Sands, the shoreline is receding, exposing palm roots and buried PVC piping.
