The photo below was taken at Puako on the western coast of the island of Hawaii. This species has been reported from the Marshalls. Considering the variation we have seen in Chaetodon burgessi, we wonder if reports of C. tinkeri in the Marshalls might have been C. burgessi with little or no black bar on the forehead area behind the eye.
