This is the most common species of Heniochus at Kwajalein, and is often seen on lagoon, pinnacle and seaward reefs. We usually see these paired, but they occasionally form small groups that may persist over time. One group of about 20 individuals has been in the exact same spot on the seaward reef for several years. They are reported to feed primarily on coral polyps.
The next shot shows part of a school that has existed for at least several years on one coral outcrop on the seaward reef.
Photogenic juveniles have an ocellated black spot on the anal fin.
