The photos of the red variety of Distichopora were taken in about 6-25m of water on the seaward reef of Namu Atoll. This species or color form does not occur at Kwajalein, just 55km north and a little west of Namu. We also saw a red variety at Enewetak Atoll, although the colonies tended to be smaller with less robust branches. At Namu, many of the fan-shaped colonies exceeded about 30cm wide.
