Ariosoma scheelei (Strömman, 1896)
Scheele's conger, 20cm

This is a relatively short, white eel that is active at night but lives buried in sand during the day. We have seen them while night diving in the Kwajalein ski boat area, which has wide expanses of fine sand and callianassid mounds. When bothered by dive lights, the eel tends to dig tail first into the sand until it disappears. The only image we have is a frame capture from old low resolution hi8 video, so it looks a bit fuzzy.
