Callechelys marmorata (Bleeker, 1854)
Marbled snake eel, 87cm

We have seen only a few of this species of snake eel in the Marshalls, all on lagoon sand flats and slopes, where they just have their heads sticking out of the sand. We have also seen this species in Indonesia, but the ones at Kwajalein tend to run lighter in color, probably helping them blend in better with the white coral sand.
